Man dies in St. Louis shooting on I-55, traffic reopens after long jam

ST. LOUIS – Police are investigating a deadly shooting Thursday morning at Interstate 55 near South Broadway in St. Louis City.

The shooting happened just before 8 a.m. Thursday. Investigators say a man was shot in the head and has since died from his injuries. The victim was found in a car near an entrance ramp to I-55.

While police say the shooting happened in the southbound lanes of I-55, traffic had been stalled in both directions as officers collected evidence and worked to clear the scene.

Detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are handling the investigation. According to preliminary reports from the department, some evidence at the site might indicate the gunshot wounds might have been self-inflicted, though police have not yet confirmed that to be the cause of death.

Police are trying to collect more information from potential witnesses. FOX 2 will update as more information becomes available.
