A lot of Ohio State football fans are angry. They’re angry because the Buckeyes lost to TTUN for the second straight year for the first time since the ’99-’00 season. It’s the first time a lot of Buckeye fans have had to feel this sort of pain that they didn’t even know existed.

They are angry because Ryan Day ignored the signs of trouble that this team showed all year long and didn’t try to fix the issues. They’re mad because he remains stubborn with his playcalling and refuses to try to get the ball to his best players as much as possible.

With all of that being said, Day will likely stay on as the coach of the Buckeyes for at least one more year. But there was an interesting article I saw from Joe Rexrode of the Athletic in Nashville Tennessee that said the Buckeyes should try to give everything to Mike Vrabel to bring him back. Could that happen?

Could the Ohio State football team convince Mike Vrabel to be their head coach?

Vrabel coached under Urban Meyer from 2011-2013. He eventually left to head to the NFL and worked his way up to being the head coach of the Titans in 2018. He is now highly regarded in the league and won the Coach of the Year last year after leading Tennessee to a number-one seed in the AFC.

So why would Vrabel ever leave a head coaching gig to come back to college? In my mind, he wouldn’t. He fits very well in the NFL and has done a fantastic job coaching there. But if you want to find reasons for him to come back to Columbus, I can only think of two.

One is a massive amount of money. Right now, Vrabel makes $9 million per year with the Titans. Ohio State is one of the wealthiest football programs out there. They could throw $11 million at him and hope that he decides to bite.

The only other reason he would join the Ohio State football program is that he loves the program and he hates seeing them lose to TTUN. He could bring the program back to the dominance it had under previous head coaches and he could win some national titles. He is a great coach after all.

Next. OSU might lose Brian Hartline to head coaching job. dark

Do I think this has any chance of happening? Absolutely not. Vrabel disliked NIL when it was talked about before he left college and certainly would hate dealing with it as a head coach. But it gives you something to think about for sure.
