Heisman hot board after Week 13: One alone at the top
Heisman voters Matt Zenitz and Mike Huguenin provide weekly updates on who leads the Heisman race for them. Here is how each has the field after Week 13.
Matt Zenitz’s list
1. USC QB Caleb Williams: Barring a drastic turn in events, Williams will win the Heisman.
+ Season stats: 268-of-407 (65.8 percent), 3,712 yards, 34 TDs, 3 interceptions, 351 rushing yards, 10 TDs
+ Week 13 stats: 232 passing yards, 1 TD, 35 rushing yards, 3 TDs in 38-27 win over Notre Dame
2. Washington QB Michael Penix: Penix is averaging nearly 40 more passing yards per game than any other FBS quarterback (362.8).
+ Season stats: 330-of-500 (66.0 percent), 4,354 yards, 29 TDs, 7 interceptions, 86 rushing yards, 4 TDs
+ Week 13 stats: 485 passing yards, 3 TDs, 1 interception, 34 rushing yards, 2 TDs in 51-33 win over Washington State
3. Michigan RB Blake Corum: Before an injury limited him to two carries during Michigan’s win over Ohio State, Corum ran for at least 108 yards in each of the Wolverines’ first eight Big Ten games.
+ Season stats: 1,463 yards (5.92 yards per carry), 18 TDs, 1 TD reception
+ Week 13 stats: 6 yards (3.0 ypc) in 45-23 win over Ohio State
4. TCU QB Max Duggan: Led by Duggan, TCU ranks fourth nationally in scoring.
+ Season stats: 221-of-332 (66.6 percent), 3,070 yards, 29 TDs, 3 interceptions, 294 rushing yards, 5 TDs
+ Week 13 stats: 212 passing yards, 3 TDs in 62-14 win over Iowa State
5. Oregon QB Bo Nix: Nix has accounted for 41 total touchdowns in Oregon’s last 11 games.
+ Season stats: 271-of-379 (71.5 percent), 3,388 yards, 27 TDs, 6 interceptions, 504 rushing yards, 14 TDs
+ Week 13 stats: 327 passing yards, 2 TDs in 38-34 loss to Oregon State
Mike Huguenin’s list
1. Caleb Williams: He accounted for four TDs in USC’s win over Notre Dame, the eighth time this season he has had at least four in a game.
2. Michael Penix Jr.: He leads the nation in passing at 362.6 yards per game and has thrown for 300 yards in 10 games. He is coming off a 485-yard effort in a win over Washington State, a game in which he also rushed for a season-high 34 yards and two TDs.
3. Max Duggan: His team is unbeaten, he has a 29-to-3 TD-to-interception ratio and he has performed well in the clutch (TCU is 5-0 in one-score games).
4. North Carolina QB Drake Maye: Given that he had two unimpressive games the past two weeks, Maye has zero shot to win the Heisman. But Maye leads the nation in total offense (373.0 yards per game), is fourth in passing (320.6 ypg) and is fourth in TD passes (35).
+ Season stats: 298-of-440 (67.7 percent), 3,847 yards, 35 TDs, 5 interceptions, 629 rushing yards, 6 TDs
+ Week 13 stats: 233 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 interception, 32 rushing yards, 1 TD in 30-27 loss to NC State
5. Bo Nix: A late-season injury wrecked Nix’s chances, but he still gutted it out and played. And he still accounted for 41 TDs. His 14 rushing TDs are the most in the nation by a quarterback.
The 88th Heisman will be awarded December 10.
