Joining the pantheon of automaker brands offering yachting-inspired editions is Bentley. The uptown automaker’s new variation on the Continental GT Convertible theme is the Mulliner Riviera Collection, a Cote d’Azur-ready trio of unflappable heavyweights that carry the spirit of a leisurely al fresco brunch on a saline-tinged terrace.

Bentley’s Continental GT Convertible Mulliner Riviera Collection follows somewhat similar entries from Rolls — most notably the singular Sweptail, which engendered the Boat Tail in its wake — although yachty cars are nothing new, and in the cosmopolitan-mad Golden Age of the automobile both the dirigible and the nautical inspired car design. Even Uncle Roy’s ancient Lincoln Town Car might qualify, especially since he replaced those pesky rusty floor panels with two-by-four decking. Although it certainly didn’t evoke Streamline Moderne forms.

The three variations in the Mulliner Riviera Collection — each a singularity — are all drop-top body styles. Common to the relaxed triumvirate: Mediterranean-inspired paint colors, a wealth of carbon fiber, interiors swathed in Alcantara and leather that’s been given a special ‘Linen’ finish, and of course edition-specific badging. The Continental GT can be ordered with Bentley’s W12 powerhouse, although these nimble day-trippers are probably V8-equipped.

The Continental GT Convertible Mulliner Riviera Collection cars are being offered only in Bentley’s Monaco dealership, and are likely already spoken for.
