REPORTER: TO HOPEFULLY AVOID THE MESS, THE CITY SAYS IT INSPECTS AND CLEANS STORM DRAINS BEFORE WE’RE EXPECTING RAIN, AND RESIDENTS CAN ALSO HELP MAKE SURE THEY DON’T GET CLOGGED WITH ALL THIS NOW THAT WE’RE IN THE MIDST OF LEAF SEASON. THESE ARE JUST THE SOUNDS OF THE SEASON IN SACRAMENTO. SOMETHING JAY SPOONER KNOWS ALL TOO WELL. >> THAT TREE HAS DROPPED ALL OF ITS LEAVES PRETTY MUCH, BUT NOW ALL THESE TREES ARE GOING FOR THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS. IT’S A LOT OF WORK THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. Leaf sweep before the rain: Sacramento crews, residents clearing city streets ahead of storm
The city of Sacramento is preparing for rain and hoping residents are too. The Department of Utilities inspects and cleans drains before incoming storms.Residents can also help to clear leaves from the street to prevent them from clogging up storm drains, which can lead to street flooding. That is what Jay Spooner was busy doing on Wednesday morning. He manages an apartment complex at 23rd Street and G Street.| Weather timeline shifts: Rain, snow in forecast for Northern California. Here’s what to expect"Yeah, I've managed this complex for 20 years so there's pretty much not anything that I haven't seen," he explained.He swept up all the leaves into a big pile for the claw to pick up tomorrow."I do not want my tenants to have to slog through water to get to their apartments or get out of their cars or anything," Spooner said.The city of Sacramento shared some pointers for others helping to do their part during "leaf season" as well."Try to make those piles neat. Keep them out of storm drains and bike lanes when possible and always fill your container first," said Jesa David, media and communications specialist for the city of Sacramento.
