Grandview Heights police are looking for three suspects accused of threatening an Amazon delivery driver at gunpoint on Tuesday morning and then stealing his car at Grandview Yard.
According to police, an Amazon delivery driver was dropping off a package when he was approached by the suspects who then stole his car.
The suspects, who police described as two men and one woman, ditched that car in a nearby parking garage. According to the Grandview Heights Twitter page, the same suspects were seen unloading packages from the original stolen vehicle into a second vehicle, which was subsequently reported stolen from the same area.
That vehicle, a red Kia Optima, belonged to Hannah Cox.
"I was heading out to work around 8, 8:15 and went right to my parking spot and the car was not there," Cox said.
Cox said her car was recovered Wednesday morning.
"The entire front end is completely damaged," Cox said. "It has to be towed. A lot of drug paraphernalia in the car. It’s basically destroyed."
Cox and her husband said they chose to live at The Yard because it's typically a safe area.
"We moved here because of the proximity to downtown, but also how safe the area was," Cox said. "So, it was shocking. Kia’s being stolen isn’t a new fad, but being here, we thought we would be okay and safe."
Another Grandview Yard resident, Kelly Toth, said she witnessed the aftermath of the crime.
"I was out walking my dog and I saw a person wearing an Amazon vest on his phone and no Amazon car around or anything and I thought that was weird," Toth said. "My sister had sent me an article about the incident later in the day and I said, I think I saw the guy that happened to."
Toth said she has felt safe living in the neighborhood and typically parked her car in the street in front of her building.
"My car is out all of the time so it is unnerving," Toth said. "But I never keep anything in it. This area is typically very safe. There are always lots of people out walking this road specifically. And I park near a main door that’s well lit. I thought I’d never have to think about something like this."
ABC6/FOX28 reached out to the Amazon driver but has not gotten in touch with him.
Police said the suspects remain at large. According to the police report, officers are also looking for a suspect vehicle, described as a black Audi sedan.
On Twitter, the City of Grandview Heights said any information about the suspects can be reported to the Grandview Heights Police at 614-488-7901.
