Gus Johnson recently had high praise for J.J. McCarthy.

Johnson joined Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit to discuss Michigan and the College Football Playoff. The conversation then turned to McCarthy, and how the QB has proved people wrong in 2022.

“I think this weekend, Joel (Klatt) and I are gonna start talking about JJ McCarthy as a Heisman candidate and potentially Heisman winner,” Johnson said.

McCarthy has thrown for 2,215 yards passing while completing 65.3% of his passes, with 17 TDs and 2 INTs. The 1st-year starter showcased his big-game ability when the Wolverines defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 45-23 in Week 13.

The Heisman Trophy winner will be announced on Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
