LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - A suspect is in custody after a standoff with Las Vegas police during the thick of rush hour traffic late Wednesday afternoon.

Police tell FOX5 officers attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle near Winnick Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Police said the driver then started driving recklessly. They said he drove on sidewalks during the course of the chase.

Despite how busy the area is, especially with several events in town this week, police said at this time no injuries have been reported.

FOX5 and Nevada Regional Transportation Commission cameras showed over 20 patrol units engaging in the chase-turned-standoff.

On the way to the scene, FOX5′s Drew Andre reported heavy delays around where this all was taking place. Traffic even stood still on Las Vegas Boulevard.

Roads were closed at Flamingo and Koval in the eastbound lanes toward University Center Drive police said.

Just after 4:45 p.m., the suspect’s vehicle went up into flames. It is unclear if the fire was started intentionally or due to a collision. FOX5 photographers captured what appears to be an LVMPD motorcycle and patrol unit rammed into the front bumper of the black car.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames after police went in to apprehend the suspect.
