Utility crews spent the day working to restore power and clear debris from roads after a winter storm hit much of Mason County Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Downed trees forced road closures on sections of highways 101 and 106 near the Hood Canal.
Utility crews from different districts spent the day Wednesday reconnecting power lines that were hit by falling tree debris.
"I knew when the ice came we were going to have problems," said Carol Tompkins, who lives in the town of Union. " A lot of my neighbors have several big branches that came down. It was just really hard, came down heavy, came down all day.”
Tompkins said the area seems to be in a bullseye for winter storms.
“You can have nothing on that side, and nothing on that side, and we have, we’ve had two feet of snow. 2019, that was a doozy - it took me six days to get out of my driveway," Tompkins said.
Crews also pulled several cars out of snowbanks near the town of Skokomish.
“There was one in the ditch on this side, one in the ditch on this side. There’s a lot of people who don’t know how to drive," said tow truck driver Ray Delander of R & K Recycling and Transport. "Mother nature doesn’t like people in some spots."
By 4 p.m. Wednesday, rain and snow were again falling across the southern portion of the Hood Canal.
