Single mom surprised with SUV to help transport her special needs child
After all the shopping and deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is all about giving back and doing good.
A local single mom of three, including one with special needs, is now the recipient of some of that generosity.

The popular KVJ Radio show on 97.9 WRMF surprised her with a gift her family desperately needs – an SUV.
Elizabeth Akhurst’s daughter Amaris has spina bifida and hydrocephalus and her car was repossessed after falling behind on bills.
“It’s been a lot as far as with hours and work and certain things like that, that pretty much just got us into a situation. Especially with medical bills and certain things insurance does not cover as far as with her."
Four years ago, the hosts of the KVJ Show stepped in, raising $25,000 to cover costs for a surgery Amaris needed and Tuesday, they helped out again, surprising Akhurst with a Nissan Rogue from Classic Cars of Palm Beach in Jupiter.
“When we heard that her family had their car repossessed, we knew we had to jump in and try to help. And John from Classic Cars of Palm Beach said absolutely, I want to give this family a car, so they don’t have to worry about getting Amaris to her doctor’s appointments,” Virginia Sinicki, one of the hosts of the KVJ Show, said.

“When we first met, we struggled. We were really – we had a hard time. We worked our way through it, and we got to a point now where we’re blessed. We have the ability to reach out to help. And I like that, I wish more businesses would step up when they have the opportunity,” John Giasullo, the owner of Classic Cars of Palm Beach, said.
Akhurst said she couldn’t be more grateful for their generosity and the impact it will have on her and her children’s lives.
“I was pretty much very emotional because you know, not every day you meet a lot of good generous people that will help you through your situation so that was pretty much just a moment for me to see how many people really care about me and my daughter and my situation. So that was pretty much tears of joy,” Akhurst said.
Akhurst said the gift is perfect timing because Amaris starts school in two weeks and now she’ll be able to drive her back and forth comfortably with her wheelchair.
