Many families in eastern Jackson County will have more on their dinner plate this holiday season.
All thanks to a donation that has come a long way.
"Certainly living in an economic time where prices of soared," Doug Cowan with the Community Services League said.
Wednesday morning, the Community Services League rolled in a 53-foot trailer full of free food.
"We know that families are living on limited income. Whether they're seniors or low-income kids, dollars have to be stretched really, really far," Cowan said.
It’s actually the second year of the trip.
The food has been donated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It comes from their huge canning factory.
The group says that when they know that there's a need, they can help.
"Help them to take away a stress they might have in their life for basic needs that they have," Brian McKee with the Church said.
Along with tons of food, they also donated household items.
"Soap, and cleaning supplies, which are a huge benefit to families," Cowan said.
It's 39,000 pounds of food that will fill thousands of boxes for area food pantries. It means they'll be stocked for more than a month.
"So, to be able to offer food products like this, it really is a fantastic thing," Cowan said.
The donation will go to food pantries all over eastern Jackson County.
