The Everett Police Department is holding a guns for gift cards exchange event next month in an effort to reduce gun violence by getting unwanted firearms out of the community.
Residents of Everett and Snohomish County will be able to trade in eligible firearms in exchange for pre-paid VISA gift card. The event will be held at the Everett Police South Precinct at 1121 SE Everett Mall Way on Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Everett residents can access the event at 10 a.m. and then it will open to all Snohomish County residents at noon.
Snohomish County residents can trade in inoperable firearms for a $25 gift card, rifles and shotguns for a $100 gift card, handguns for a $200 gift card and AR-15 or AK-47s for a $300 gift card. All firearms must be unloaded and secured in the trunk of a vehicle or in a locked area of a truck bed. Ammunition and guns with parts commonly found at home improvement stores will not be accepted.
Residents will be limited to submitting 10 eligible firearms however you may be able to turn in more at the police department's discretion. Ghost guns will be limited to one per resident.
All firearms will be checked to see if they are stolen or have been used in any crimes. If they have, the police department said the firearms will be destroyed or taken as evidence.
