Eastenders should premiere episodes each morning Monday to Thursday at 6am on BBC IPlayer for that day’s BBC One airing. Hollyoaks is the first soap to premiere episodes permanently on All 4 the day of E4 broadcast. Weekly boxsets can be for special occasions like sporting events or even Christmas if they wanted too. Emmerdale and Coronation Street should as well premiere on ITVX at least the day of their ITV1 broadcast. I still prefer box-set format but I can't see them doing that permanently which I would like it to happen. It may happen in the next decade or so. What do you think of daily release of EastEnders on iPlayer? Or do you still prefer the weekly box-set. Do you still like it to premiere first on television broadcast? Or others?

Going by what I’m used to, I wouldn’t mind the episodes being released every day at 6am. It makes it really easier when you know you won’t be able to watch the TV broadcast.

There is absolutely no reason to box set them or release them early if the episodes are airing in their normal slots

I can't see the benefit of releasing them in that way. If you prefer to watch them at a different time, then you still can - just by staying an episode behind everyone else.

They shouldn't be encouraging people to get out of the habit of watching them at 7.30pm, because the more likely you do that, the more likely you're going to get out of the habit of watching full-stop.

That makes sense if I'm going to miss a particular episode when it airs on TV. Definitely it should have happened before now when EastEnders went up against Emmerdale.

but u can still watch them, they are available on demand literally the second the episode airs, what you actually want to do is to watch them before they air on tv

No real need to do this - as has been mentioned it’s easy enough to watch them whenever you want, just after the TV broadcast.

I don’t see the point. Are people really so impatient that they can’t just wait until the regular broadcast?

I’m confused. If you miss it just watch it on the iPlayer?

Television broadcast is the model soaps were built on. Don’t fix what’s not broken (for now).

Yes I feel like iPlayer should premiere episodes exclusively. Plus some people prefer streaming it first early in the morning.

There is absolutely no reason for that to happen though, the genre isn’t suited for it

You can stream the previous night's episode for your breakfast? :joy:

The soap genre isn't build for the boxsetting approach like a 6 part drama is.

I’m sure some do but I’d be willing to bet the majority are just happy to wait until the evening.

Definitely leave them as television broadcast. It something to look forward to watching in the evening.

As said before box sets or early release of the episodes kills the daily discussion threads and there's always the risk of spoilers.

Like others have said you can watch at time to suit yourself on iplayer after it airs on TV.

The key word here being that you want to watch it first, before everyone else.

This is pretty much it. The arguement "I want to watch it whenever I feel like" d9esnt hold mustard because they can still do that. Just after the episode has aired.

I believe it's when not 'if' it will happen. Boxsets is ideal not because I want to stream it first before everyone else it's because people's viewing habits are changing. People wants to stream their week's episodes in one go!

As seen by the results of your own poll, this is not the case.

I prefer the daily release. It suits me and I do think eventually this is what all soaps will do. Some won’t like it but the way we watch has changed and soap bosses have to adapt.

Says who? You have nothing to back that up seeing as your own poll suggests only 22% want that ?

What about people who aren't on this thread and didn't vote? Do they not count? TV figures shows different. I be happy enough for daily release because people can choose when and how to stream episodes throughout each weekday.

Where do tv figures show that people want to binge watch? When the soaps have been box setting the tv ratings haven’t been significantly lower?

    But they already can do.
From Thursday evening straight after the final episode of the week has broadcast on TV.

I have no objection to streaming or box sets (it's no different to the weekend omnibus after all which is how Ive watched a lot of the soaps over the decades) but I do think the first opportunity to watch each episode should remain the TV broadcast.
