Dripping Springs Independent School District evacuated two of its campuses Wednesday afternoon out of an abundance of caution due to a bomb threat, officials said.
According to a Facebook post by the district at around 2 p.m., students at Sycamore Springs Elementary School were evacuated after a written note was found on a bathroom stall by a student indicating a threat.
Sycamore Springs Elementary is a shared campus with Sycamore Springs Middle School, therefore middle school students were also evacuated.
Law enforcement and school staff swept the building, but no threat was found, and received the All-Clear by 3:05 p.m.
The evacuation lasted about an hour and 40 minutes while everyone waited at the football field.
School officials say everyone is safe.
"In order to safely manage the release of students, elementary students will be released from outside the building. Therefore, elementary students will not have access to their backpacks or belongings. District buses will run their normal afternoon routes. Kids Club will follow normal after-school operations," school officials said regarding the dismissal of the day in an update.
Sycamore Springs Middle School students were allowed back into their building to access their belongings and staff will follow its normal dismissal procedures.
Dripping Springs ISD released a follow-up statement and said the responsible party came forward and confesses to making the false claim.
Based on this confession, there was never any real threat to students or staff. The district will not be releasing the name of the individual.
