Man wanted on elder abuse charges found in McKinleyville homeless encampment

MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. —
A man wanted on elder abuse charges was found and arrested at a McKinleyville homeless encampment on Wednesday.

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said deputies arrested Rob Harvey, 38, just before 8:15 Wednesday morning at an encampment along the Mad River.
Officials said Harvey was wanted as the suspect of an elder abuse investigation last month.
When Harvey saw deputies, the HCSO said he tried to flee by wading into the river, but he was apprehended shortly after.
The HCSO said Harvey was booked into jail on the following charges:

- Causing injury to an elder adult
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Possession of a controlled substance for sales
- Maintaining a drug house
- Driving without a license
- Failure to provide evidence of vehicle registration
- Failure to provide evidence of vehicle insurance
- Providing false vehicle registration
