Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas is getting into the holiday spirit.
The airport hosted a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, its first since 2019 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program featured the Doris French Elementary School choir performing a selection of holiday songs. Members of the group Stop DUI and Nevada State Police also raised awareness for preventing driving under the influence.
Rosemary Vassiliadis, director of aviation for Clark County, said the airport is an integral part of the holidays, both for Southern Nevada residents looking to see their families and for visitors who want to spend time in Las Vegas.
"We are hustling and bustling, and we like to show our visitors that we are a community," Vassiliadis said. "We are made up of all the things that every large city has."
The airport's grand centerpiece tree is located on Level 2 of Terminal 3. There are more than 35 other decorated trees located around the airport's terminals as well.
Airport officials say this year's theme is "Festive Flavors." Members of the airport community have put on a display that represents special foods for holiday celebrations.
There is also an ongoing donation drive to benefit Three Square Food Bank.
