VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: Both northbound lanes of US 41 N have now been reopened, according to Vigo County Central Dispatch.
One person was flown by helicopter to a hospital after a crash involving two semi-trucks shut down US 41 N for some time Wednesday afternoon.
According to Vigo County Deputy Brandon Taylor, the crash occurred near the intersection of US 41 and E. Harlan Drive in southern Vigo County Wednesday afternoon. When officers arrived one truck was reportedly off to the side of the road at least partially on a fence.
The driver of the blue semi truck sustained facial injuries and had to be cut from the truck by first responders. That driver was then flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital.
The other driver sustained only minor injuries with a possible broken nose, according to Taylor.
Traffic heading northbound was closed down for some time, as of 5:10 p.m. Vigo County Central Dispatch confirmed one lane has been re-opened northbound. Southbound lanes remained open other than for a short period to allow the air ambulance space to land and take off with the injured driver.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
