Lynn Walsh, a spokesperson for the city of Mill Valley, told KCBS Radio Tamalpais High School received a phone call at around 9:20 a.m. that there was a threat of a bomb on campus.

"They immediately went into their evacuation procedures and evacuated the students to a field and then to our local community center, which was serving as a reunification center," Walsh said. "It was about 1,500 students and they were evacuated and then a bomb squad and K9 units were dispatched to the school."

The Mill Valley Police Department initially issued an alert around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, warning residents about the evacuations at Tam High, located at 700 Mill Ave.

The campus was closed to the public shortly before 10:30 a.m. Students were urged not to return to the school to collect any belongings or vehicles, according to police.

The search is currently underway with five K9 dogs and their handlers. It is unknown how long it will take for authorities to cover the whole school, which is made up of multiple buildings across a large property. "It really depends on how many times they're taking breaks to let the dogs rest and how many rooms and how many times the dogs are indicating that they're sensing something, so each situation's different, but it is a very large campus."

Parents have been instructed to meet with their student at the Mill Valley Community Center at 180 Camino Alto.

No other details about the threat were immediately available.
