IT FIVE STARTS RIGHT NOW. TOPPING OUR NEWS AT FIVE, A BANK ROBBER IS ACCUSED OF CARJACKING THE DRIVE OVER WHO TOOK HIM TO THE BANK? HE’S ON THE RUN RIGHT NOW AFTER ROBBING THE CHASE BANK THIS MORNING ON SOUTHEAST 14TH STREET. KCCI ANDREW MOLLENBECK IS LIVE AT THE BANK TONIGHT WITH HOW THIS WHOLE THING PLAYED OUT. STEVE, WE’RE JUST OFF SOUTHEAST 14TH AND THAT’S JUST NORTH OF ARMY POST ROAD. AND THIS IS WHERE THE MAN CAME TO ROB THE BANK ABOUT 1130 THIS MORNING. INVESTIGATORS SAY THE ROBBER TOOK AN UBER TO THIS CHASE BANK. ONCE INSIDE, HE PULLED A GUN AND DEMANDED MONEY. HE LEFT WITH THE MONEY AND GOT BACK INTO THAT UBER DES MOINES POLICE SERGEANT PAUL PERISIC SAYS A SEPARATE CRIME HAPPENED ON THE DRIVE AWAY. THE UNIQUE THING ABOUT THIS IS IT DOES LOOK LIKE HE UBER DID THE SCENE UBER TWO WAY AND THEN ROB THE UBER DRIVER OF HIS CAR. SO WE’VE GOT SOME GOOD LEADS THERE JUST FROM THE AMOUNT OF CONTACT HE’S HAD WITH PEOPLE. HE DOES SAY ROBBERIES ARE MORE COMMON AT THIS TIME OF YEAR AROUND THE HOLIDAYS. NOW THAT UBER DRIVER IS OKAY. Des Moines police say a suspect took an Uber to a bank to commit a robbery, then later carjacked the driver.The crime was reported Wednesday morning. Police were called to Chase Bank on Southeast 14th Street. Police say the suspect did have a gun. “The unique thing about this is it does look like he Ubered to the scene, Ubered away and then robbed the Uber driver of his car. So, we’ve got some good leads there, just from the amount of contact he’s had with people," Sgt. Paul Parizek with the Des Moines police said.Sgt. Parizek also told KCCI that robberies are more common around the holiday season.No one was injured during the robbery and the Uber driver is OK, police reported.The investigation is ongoing.
