Macomb Mayor Mike Inman will run unopposed in next spring’s elections. But there will be contests for other positions at city hall.
One of those positions is city clerk, a job Melanie Falk has held since May of 1999. She is retiring, and two people are vying to replace her: Renee Lotz and Kate Michael-Mattsey.
Lotz has been deputy city clerk for more than 11 years.
Among city council members, Tammie Leigh Brown-Edwards is running for a second term for an at large position. She will face a challenge from two other candidates: Don Wynn and A.J. Bauser.
Wynn currently represents the third ward on the council.
Two people are running for the seat that he’s vacating: Byron Oden-Shabazz and Walter Thorpe.
There is also a contest in the first ward, where incumbent Mike Wayland is being challenged by Justin Schuch.
In addition to Inman, two other candidates are running unopposed: Mac Price for treasurer and Dave Dorsett for the fourth ward city council seat.
The candidate filing period for Macomb positions ended Monday.
The filing period for other units of government around western Illinois is December 12 through 19.
Early voting for the municipal elections begins on February 23.
Election Day is April 4.
