ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 4-year-old child who deputies say was kidnapped by a parent who does not have custody of her was found safe in Texas.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday that Laquita Armstrong-Cavin, 36, arranged a supervised visit to shop with her 4-year-old daughter. She left the store with the child in an unknown vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said no threats were made, and the incident was being investigated as a parental kidnapping as Armstrong-Cavin does not have custody of her daughter.

On Thursday, the two were found at a motel in San Angelo, Texas, the sheriff’s office said. Armstrong-Cavin was arrested around 7 p.m. with the help of the San Angelo Police Department.

The 4-year-old was unharmed, deputies say. She is now in the care of Children Services in Texas, which is working on getting her back to Michigan.

Armstrong-Cavin will be extradited to Michigan, the sheriff’s office said.
