FIU Women’s Hoops Ready for Midweek Showdown Against Florida National

This is the first matchup between the Panthers and Conquistadors

MIAMI, Fla. – The FIU women's basketball team will continue its home stand this week and take on Florida National University this Wednesday, Nov.30 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The Panthers are coming off a second-place finish after hosting the FIU Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend. FIU went 1-1 during the tournament defeating Howard University in the opening round before falling to UMASS in the championship game.
 
After the tournament, the Panthers overall record is now 2-3.
 
Senior guard Kaliah Henderson and redshirt freshman Sifa Joyeuse both represented FIU in the All-Tournament Team. In the two games played, Joyeuse led FIU in scoring averaging 20 points per game along with 5.5 rebounds. Henderson recorded a career high 24 points against Howard and averaged 17 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2 assists in the tournament.
 
After Joyeuse incredible offensive performance over the weekend, she continues to lead Conference USA in scoring averaging 19 points per game this season. She also paces the conference in three pointers made with 18 and is shooting 38% from behind the arc.
 
Going into this game against the Conquistadors, the Panthers are second in C-USA scoring 78 points per game. The team's ability to make their three-point shots has benefited this offense as the Panthers make 9.2 three-pointers per game which is the second-best mark in the conference.
 
FIU has also been active on the glass leading the conference with 46.2 rebounds per game. They are averaging 19.6 offensive boards each contest which is also first in the conference by a wide margin. Senior center Hope Butera and junior forward Maria Torres have been very dependable in that category each corralling 18 offensive rebounds so far this season and are tied for the conference lead.
 
SCOUTING FLORIDA NATIONAL UNIVERSITY 
The Conquistadors finished with a 7-14 overall record last season and had a 1-1 record in the Continental Athletic Conference. This will be the first time both teams face one another. FNU is entering Wednesday's matchup against FIU dropping their last game against St. Thomas University. Their last victory was on Nov. 18 over the University of Fort Lauderdale.
 
The Conquistadors have two players averaging double figures after their first six games of the season. Sophomore guard, Natalie Larranaga, leads FNU with 17.4 points per game and is second with 4.8 rebounds. Junior guard, Kaylee Llanos, is not too far behind appearing in all six games and averaging 16 points each contest.

The Panthers will wrap up their four-game home stand this weekend at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center as they welcome Kennesaw State University this Sunday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+
