CRYSTAL FALLS — On Nov. 3, local restaurant owners Scion and Pam Petrick of the Curious Pig were featured on the YouTube channel, “America’s Best Restaurants” for their unique and flavorful smoked meats.
The channel, which has just under 1,600 subscribers, spotlights independent eateries across the U.S. Its host is Greg Hutson, and in order to be featured on the show, a restaurant must be nominated by the public or business itself. From there, the channel contacts the restaurant owners for a preview interview. If the restaurant has what the program is looking for, they are selected for filming.
Hutson and cameraman Austen Turner made their stop on Sept. 12. It was the two-person crew’s first time in the U.P. Based on the episode, it looked like they enjoyed their visit.
“It was super cool and super fun having them here,” said owner Pam Petrick. “It was also a little nerve racking too.”
For each episode, “America’s Best Restaurants” features three main dishes. Curious Pig showcased its reuben, luau pizza and “three-meat platter.” Hutson gushed over each one.
Curious Pig began its journey with smoked meat and other dishes back in February of 2017.
“My husband and I were both looking for a change where we could sort of be our own boss and use our creativity a little more,” Petrick said. “My husband has been in the food service industry for 20 years and we thought, ‘Why not go all in?’”
The couple has done just that with their creativity and hard work and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. The Curious Pig has certainly become a favorite for the local community and now YouTube.
