Transfer portal moves, UT System news, and a wild few weeks ahead
Seven Texas football players announced their intentions to join the NCAA transfer portal when it opens Monday of next week.

Chief among them were back-up quarterback Hudson Card and jumbo tight end Andrej Karic.
In those two instances, you can’t do anything but applaud the player for giving their all for the team while on campus. They both acquitted themselves well and should be remembered as true Longhorns.
Card will hopefully go somewhere where he has a clear path to start, and Karic will likely pick a place where he can compete for starting time at his more natural position of offensive tackle or guard.
The others who have opted to transfer did not see nearly as much playing time as Card and Karic. None of them had a clear path to the playing field and/or were already recruited over.
In my view, I consider it natural attrition of a college football program.
So what’s next?
Sark is continuing his one-on-one meetings with players today and later into the week.
So more Longhorns could certainly enter the portal next week or even announce their intentions this week.
But remember, just as some leave, the Horns’ staff is busy behind the scenes trying to prepare for incoming possibilities as well.

Dates to remember:
The first signing day for high school recruits is Dec. 21.
The first day for FBS players to officially enter the portal is next Monday. Players have 45 days from that day to decide on their school of choice.
There is an additional portal period that begins May 1.

In the wake of the transfer portal, it didn’t get much attention among Texas fans yesterday, so I’m going to give it some today.
The board of regents at Stephen F. Austin University announced yesterday that they had voted to join the University of Texas educational system.
SFA will not change its name, its nickname, logo, etc. But it will become a full part of the UT system, joining the likes of UTEP, UTSA, UT-Dallas, UT-Tyler, etc.
SFA chose the UT system over overtures from A&M, Tech and Texas State.
UT board of regents chairman Kevin Eltife, himself an East Texas native, took a personal interest in the move and is happy to have the Nacogdoches school join the UT system
“Our proposal to SFA outlined our sincere commitment to helping the university build upon its programs, traditions and culture that have made the university unique for nearly a century, while adding resources to help amplify those strengths and ultimately serve more Texans,” Eltife said.
It’s another step forward for UT and its purpose to best serve the citizens of the great state of Texas.
