The Cody White era has ended at Brentwood Academy.

White, who left coaching Texas high school football in 2012, resigned as coach Wednesday. He will remain as the school's athletic director until June.

White told The Tennessean he and his wife are returning to Texas where he has two children living.

He does not yet have a coaching job in Texas.

"I made the cardinal sin in coaching, but I love this place so much I wanted to do it in a timely manner where they can get a good search," said White, 53. "I care immensely with this continuing in a positive direction. I felt that was the right thing to do with a place that has treated my family and I so well.

"Our youngest is graduating, and will probably go far off to school. Our other two are in Texas and probably will settle there. It's a natural time when your last one leaves and you become empty nesters to say, 'Alright, what's this thing going to look like for the next 10, 15 or more years?' I'd rather be move now and be closer to family than in 15 years."

White went 103-27 in 11 seasons at Brentwood Academy. The Eagles won four straight state championships from 2015-17. The program also has four other state semifinal appearances. That includes this season when Brentwood Academy finished 9-3 and lost 44-39 to Baylor on a controversial finish when a BA receiver was called down about a yard short of the end zone with no time remaining.

White said he will continue to assist with offseason work outs while Brentwood Academy searches for a replacement.

"I can't just leave a void, for one," White said. "I'm still going to work with the boys in workouts. It's not like I'm leaving because I'm frustrated or their mad or anything like that. It's amicable. I love these boys. I'm going to follow them. It's more to help them push through this time and our contracts run through June."
