Kevin Durant is still in Brooklyn, but the dust following his trade request is yet to settle.

That's not to say that KD will engage in another I want out campaign -- the 34-year-old made it clear he wants to move forward with the Nets. But as the team sits 9th in the East with an 11-11 record, the possibility of the 12x All-Star re-requesting a trade still looms in the shadows.

The bulls should be all in on KD

Whether it's Kyrie Irving's decision-making or Ben Simmons' health, the cloud of uncertainty hangs over Brooklyn. That's why the rest of the league should continue monitoring the KD situation as he continues to shoulder the Nets throughout what could be another disappointing season.

This especially goes for the Chicago Bulls, who, according to Sam Smith, should be all in on Durant if he becomes available again.

"Look, we like what we’ve seen from the Bulls these last few games against the Celtics and Bucks, but there’s all sorts of stuff that goes on in the regular season, travel, load management, too much time partying in one city, that don’t carry over to the post season," Smith wrote

"The Nets remain the ground zero of the NBA with star players and average results. They’re always one losing streak (or Durant crisis of conscience) from that new direction. There seems no way they bring back free agent Irving after this season, and though Ben Simmons has played better of late, that guy from a few years ago seems gone. Durant is just starting his last best four years of his career with a new contract. If he’s there and I’m the Bulls, I’m all in unless they believe they have a title team now," he added.

The inevitable fallout in Brooklyn

ESPN's Max Kellerman threw the idea out there about the Bulls being an ideal landing spot for Kevin Durant amid his trade saga this summer. Smith now doubled down on that theory.

According to the author of "The Jordan Rules," the fallout in Brooklyn seems inevitable. If (and when) it happens, the Bulls should put all their eggs into the Kevin Durant basket and do whatever it takes to bring him in. Because, no matter what they give up for KD, the team's front office proved they can do a good job of filling out the rest of the roster.

As currently constructed, the Bulls still might turn their season around, especially once Lonzo Ball returns from injury. But their ceiling increases dramatically if they can add a guy of KD's stature to the roster. Smith knows it and has one piece of advice for the organization.

"I’d be all in for Durant if I had a chance," he concluded.
