Oklahoma Sen. Blake Stephens, R-Tahlequah, has officially filed a measure to lock in Daylight Saving Time year-round.
He says Senate Bill 7 calls for the state to remain on Daylight Saving Time and argues it's a commonsense bill that would help Oklahoma become a healthier state.
“I could go on and on about why it is beneficial to remain in DST,” Stephens said in a press release. “Just one example is Oklahoma having one of the highest rates of childhood obesity, which could be combatted with having an extra hour of daylight in the evening for exercise and outdoor activities. This is a common-sense bill that would help us in our efforts to become a healthier state.”
If passed, it would go into effect immediately if Congress approves the Sunshine Protection Act giving states the option to end the time change.
