Sulphur Springs is on the centerline for that eclipse, and we are expecting that Hopkins County will double its population for that weekend with people traveling literally from around the world to view the spectacular natural event. Sulphur Springs has one of the longest viewing times in the nation, has historically clear weather on that date and is close to international airports, so we are set up to be one of the feature destinations. SSISD Parents Night Out Feb. 10 2023
Feb. 6, 2023- Sulphur Springs ISD will be hosting a Parents’ Night Out on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 6:00p.m. to 10:00p.m. at SSES for school-aged children 5 – 11. SSISD would like to use this opportunity to raise funds for their Summer Day Camp Program to add more activates for their campers to enjoy.

Senior Center Line Dancing To Be Returning
Feb. 3, 2023- Starting starting Feb. 8 the Sulphur Springs Senior Citizen Center is bringing back line dancing. Every second and fourth Wednesday of the month the Senior Center will be hosting line dancing with Marion Cox from Shadow Ranch for all those who want to join in on the fun.

Memorial service for Linda Schuyler, age 71 of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. There will be no formal visitation. Ms. Schuyler passed away on February 5, 2023 at her residence.

Mary Sue Hanby Shoaff, 77, of Cumby passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs. Mary was born on July 19. 1945 in Dallas, TX to Raymond Hanby and Nona Rhoads Hanby. She married Jerry Franklin Shoaff on June 3, 1966 in Dallas, TX. Mary was a Licensed Vocational Nurse until her retirement. Her favorite thing to do was keeping up with children on Facebook, painting little houses & figurines and she loved bible study. She was a member of Calvary Chapel, Greenville.
Jo Ann Waller
Jo Ann was born in Hopkins County on February 19, 1948, to the late Buck and Ruth Gilbreath. She was of the Baptist faith She was an excellent student and received many awards throughout her time at Yantis ISD and when she was in high school, basketball was her sport and she loved playing every chance she got. She received many awards for her basketball talents on being the Most Valued Player (MVP) award for her team. If Jo Ann set her mind to anything, she would make it happen.
David Brent Little
David Brent Little (Brent) was born March 4, 1970, in Sherman, Texas to David Huell and Carolyn Taylor Little. After a lengthy illness, he passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at the age of 52 in Quitman, Texas, at Caraday of Quitman Nursing Facility surrounded by family. He was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church since childhood. Graveside service will be held at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in the Pleasant Grove community Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Brent is survived by his mother, his sister and her husband, Carla June and Edward Shelman of Winnsboro, Tx., and his brother David Mark Larsen of Kauai, Hawaii.
Gary Baldwin
Gary Baldwin, 63, of Sulphur Springs, Texas passed away February 3, 2023 at Christus Hospital in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Gary was born June 27, 1959 in Hernando, MS to Raymond Eugene and Alice Pearl (Carpenter) Baldwin. Gary often referred to himself as an outlaw, but those who knew him or ever needed anything would tell you differently. Gary was always available with a listening ear and advice whenever anyone needed it. He always had a story to tell and a laugh to share and the word stranger was not in his vocabulary. He was always a hard worker and taught all his kids good work ethic. He spent the last sixteen years welding for Sulta Manufacturing Company. Gary’s memory will be honored in a memorial service at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel with Jason Connor officiating.
Couple Arrested on Warrants near Shooks Chapel
February 7, 2023 – While en route to a early morning traffic stop, a Hopkins County Deputy observed a vehicle parked at Shooks Chapel. The red Chevrolet Tahoe was parked in the parking lot with the hatch open. The Deputy also observed a subject walking around the vehicle. Once finished with the traffic stop, He returned to perform a welfare check at Shooks Chapel.
