Unemployment rises in Arkansas, falls in Missouri in September

Unemployment numbers rose in north central Arkansas abut fell in southern Missouri. The data is from the month of September.

In Baxter County, the unemployment rate rose from 3.6% to 3.9%. Baxter County has 652 unemployed residents out of a workforce of 16,811 and is tied for 32nd lowest out of Arkansas’s 75 counties.

Marion County’s rate also rose to 4.0%, up from 3.6% in August. There are 256 unemployed in Marion County out of a labor force of 6,361.

Fulton County’s rate rose slightly from 3.4% in August to 3.5% and is tied for 20th lowest in the state. Out of a workforce of 5,194 Fulton County has 183 out of work.

In Izard County, the unemployment rate fell from 5.7% to 5.3% in September. Izard County has 235 unemployed out of a labor force of 4,450 and is tied for 66th lowest rate in the state.

Stone County saw its rate increase to 4% from 4.2%. Out of a workforce of 4,632, Stone County has 195 out of work.

Searcy County’s rate increased slightly from 4.4% to 4.5% which is tied for 54th in the state. There are 129 unemployed in Searcy County from a labor force of 2,887.

Boone County’s rate of 3% rose slightly to 3.2% is tied for 10th lowest in the state. Boone County has a work force of 15,905 with 510 out of work.

Newton County is tied for the state’s seventh lowest rate at 3.1%, up from 2.9% the previous month. Newton County has 99 unemployed out of a labor force of 3,214.

Ozark County’s rate fell from 4.3% to 2.6% in September. There are 91 Ozark County residents out of work from a labor force of 3,520.

Douglas County saw its rate fall from 3.2% to 1.8% in September. Douglas County has a workforce of 5,113 with 94 unemployed.

In Howell County, the rate dropped from 3.5% to 2.2%.   There are 358 out of work in Howell County from a labor force of 16,075.

The rate in Taney County fell from 3.8% to 2.5% in September. Taney County’s workforce is 26,567 with 657 unemployed.

The rate for the state of Arkansas rose from 3.4% to 3.6% in September. Missouri’s rate fell from 3% to 1.8%.
