Today is the final day of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane season, one that fell short of expectations.
This year, we saw 14 named storms, eight of which became hurricanes. Two of those became major hurricanes. Jeff Lindner with the Harris County Flood Control District says the pre-season forecasts were calling for higher numbers.
"It was a little short depending on which forecast you use. The predictions were for somewhere in the neighborhood of sixteen named storms," Lindner said.
So the numbers were down, and the action all seemed to be east of Texas.
"It was relatively quiet in the Gulf of Mexico. Really no storms impacted the U.S. Gulf Coast west of Florida, Lindner stated.
In 2021, we had 21 named storms, seven of which became hurricanes. Four of those became major hurricanes.
