MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A missing elderly man from Hartselle was found Wednesday morning in Fort Payne.

After nearly 12 hours of searching, Roy James Pierce, 77, was found by the Fort Payne Police Department.

Investigators with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) put out the Missing Person alert after Pierce was last heard from around 10 p.m. Tuesday. He sent a text message at 10 p.m. saying he was at Dollar General, but was lost, according to MCSO.

Pierce lives with a condition that may impair his judgment so MCSO put out the alert for him and his vehicle.

MCSO updated its alert on Wednesday morning after Pierce texted a family member saying that he thought he was in Decatur with a flat tire.

Investigators tracked Pierce down in Fort Payne around 10 a.m. Wednesday, locating him and the vehicle.

The agencies thanked the public’s help for their assistance in finding Pierce.
