(Greenfield, MA) On Tuesday, November 22nd at 11 p.m. Massachusetts State Police found a stolen gun during a routine traffic stop on Route 2 westbound in Greenfield. A trooper ran an RMV inquiry on a Nissan Maxima with Pennsylvania license plates and found that the vehicle’s registration was expired since January 2021. 

Upon stopping the vehicle due to the expired registration, the trooper also found that the driver, 49 year old Nathan Hazlett of Brattleboro, Vermont did not have a driver’s license. The trooper performed an inventory search before the vehicle was towed and found used syringes among other drug paraphernalia and a loaded 9mm pistol that had been reported stolen in Vermont where the 20 year old passenger Carlos Davila of New London, Connecticut had been seated.

Hazlett is being charged withunlicense operation of a motor vehicle, operating an unregistered vehicle, and motor vehicle equipment violation. There was an active arrest warrant for Davila in Connecticut, which was discovered after Davila gave police a false name. He is also being charged with illegal possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without FID card, furnishing false name to police, receiving stolen property, carrying a loaded firearm, and fugitive from justice on court warrant. His bail is set at $25,000.

There was a third occupant in the vehicle that was released without charges at the scene.
