It was an interesting year for backup quarterbacks in the NFL (including for the Pittsburgh Steelers), but particularly for the San Francisco 49ers. Their season came to a screeching halt, as Josh Johnson became their fourth string starting quarterback due to injury. The original starting QB Trey Lance was sidelined early in the season, but 49ers fans found comfort in the fact that they had a familiar face Jimmy Garoppolo stepping in as the signal-caller. Fans' worst fear came true when Garoppolo suffered a season-ending injury Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins. The fate of the 49ers season now depended on the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Brock Purdy.

A trip to the Super Bowl will make some offseason moves easier to deal with. The Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of key free agents heading into the offseason. Left tackle Orlando Brown is on the top of that list. The Chiefs are going to have to depend draft capital at both the wide receiver and defensive line position. The Chiefs do have alot of draft picks and are in the top half of the league in salary cap space. If the Chiefs make another run next year some big moves need to be made.

The New England Patriots have a glaring need for a top wide receiver, and many have speculated that they will target DeAndre Hopkins in a potential trade. The big question is whether Hopkins and Bill O’Brien could coexist, and one of the coach’s former assistants believes it is possible.

The 2023 NFL offseason is about to get underway and only two teams are not fully focused on what moves they will look to make. Both the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs are vying for a title, but the rest of the league are already working on how to get to the Super Bowl next season. Among those teams are the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans, who are on opposite ends of the contention spectrum.
