A tornado damaged dozens of homes, destroyed a handful more and knocked out power in part of Hale County, Alabama Tuesday night, which will delay the start of school there by two hours Wednesday morning.

The Hale County EMA reports that the same tornado that caused major damage in Eutaw, Alabama Tuesday crossed the Warrior River and caused damage in the rural communities of Akron and Stewart.

EMA officials estimate several dozen homes have been damaged and three or four were destroyed.

They also report "considerable" tree and power line damage, where most if not all of the community is without electricity-- Alabama Power estimated around 500 customers were experiencing outages as of 1:20 Tuesday morning.

Because of the damage and widespread power outage, Hale County Schools will delay the start of classes by two hours Wednesday morning.
