In the wake of losing star first baseman and slugger Jose Abreu to the Houston Astros, the Chicago White Sox have made the final additions to their coaching staff for the 2023 season.

Almost a month after hiring former Kansas City Royals bench coach Pedro Grifol as their new manager to replace Hall-of-Famer Tony La Russa, the rest of the new skipper’s coaching staff has been finalized.

There are a couple of new faces in town.

Firstly, the team announced that Jose Castro, who had been the assistant hitting coach for the Atlanta Braves for the past eight seasons, will serve as the team’s new hitting coach.

The White Sox also announced that Eddie Rodriguez, who had been the Royals minor league fielding coordinator will coach third base.

Charlie Montoyo, who had been dismissed as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays, will serve as Grifol’s bench coach, replacing Miguel Cairo.

Returning to their respective roles will be First Base Coach Daryl Boston, Assistant Hitting Coach Chris Johnson, Major League Field Coordinator Mike Tosar, Senior Director of Sports Performance Geoff Head, and Pitching Coach Ethan Katz.

Mostly everything is the same for the White Sox and their coaching staff.

Montoyo, Castro, and Rodriguez are the new faces on the coaching staff.

Chicago finished at .500 and came in second place in the American League Central division, 11 games back of the division champion Cleveland Guardians.

La Russa was forced to step away due to lingering health issues late in the season and was replaced by Cairo in an interim capacity.
