MIAMI VALLEY — Some parts of the Miami Valley are reporting gas below $3 for the first time in months.

Some analysts think the national average could be below $3 a gallon by Christmas.

According to AAA, Ohio’s average price is $3.41 a gallon — still 22 cents higher than a year ago, but lower than the record this past June.

“Having to pay almost $50 to fill up my tank, it just seemed absolutely absurd,” Kamryn Woodward of Germantown said.

Tuesday News Center 7′s Molly Koweek found spots in Fairborn, Enon and Springfield all under $3 a gallon.

“I can definitely travel a lot more,” Aaron Boggs of Enon said.

Patrick De Hann, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said we are likely to see falling prices and “it’s entirely possible the national average price of gasoline could fall under $3 per gallon by Christmas.”

“It’s nice, I’d like to see it under a dollar,” Fred Gersbacher of Fairborn said.

According to the Energy Information Administration, crude oil prices are the biggest driver of U.S. gas prices.

CNN reported global oil prices have fallen about 35 percent since June as strict COVID-19 restrictions in China have kept demand weak and some of the world’s major economies have signaled they are heading toward a recession.

Another contributing factor De Haan said is the Biden administration approved Chevron to export crude oil from Venezuela.

While these prices come down drivers just hope nothing pumps the breaks on this drop.

The national average according to AAA is $3.54 the lowest we’ve seen since February.
