The Christmas season really begins with the "rockets' red glare" in Trinity County.
Downtown Lewiston was packed for the annual Bridge Lighting and Fireworks Show on Saturday night, Nov. 26.
Organizer and Chief Cook & Bottle Washer, Katie Quinn, said the nice weather helps. But, really, it's the ambiance.
“It is like a Hallmark moment, here, in the mountains. That’s what we hear people tell us that come from Eureka, Chico, Humboldtwe’ve, really, had people from all over," said Event Organizer Katie Quinn. ‘It’s very small town; all the lights are on the little stores in the downtown area. And when the bridge lights up, it just makes everybody feel really good and kicks off the holiday season.”
Santa and his elves set up shop in the dance hall where he carefully memorizes children's wishes.
Outside, there were lots of booths to satisfy the hunger and thirst of the growing crowd. A lot of campfires were on the beach on the far side of the Trinity River, with everyone anticipating "the bombs bursting in air."
Then, as darkness falls, the show begins.
Followed by the Bridge Lighting.
And, finally, Santa comes across the bridge; returning and ready to hear more Christmas wishes.
It's either the largest or second-largest annual event in Lewiston. There's also the Peddlers' Faire in June.
