11/29/2022 4:30:00 PM

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Highlighted by Camille Lafaix's second straight first team selection, three Cal Poly women's soccer players were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region team released Tuesday.

Sophomore defender Emma Brown and senior defender Kylie Rojas both earned spots on the All-West Region third team, while Lafaix became just the third player in program history to secure multiple All-West Region first team selections, joining Cal Poly Athletics Hall of Famers Kolleen Kassis McNamee and Elise Krieghoff.

This is the second straight year and fourth time overall that the Mustangs have had at least three players named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region team following a season.

Lafaix garnered United Soccer Coaches All-West Region honors for the third time in her career. The Los Gatos, Calif. native led the Mustangs in points (11) and goals (five) this season, and buried three game-winning goals, tied for the second most in the conference. The senior midfielder became the first athlete in conference history to receive back-to-back Big West Midfielder of the Year awards, and a strike in a 2-0 home victory over UC Irvine on Oct. 23 allowed her to reach 42 career points, the 15th-most in program history.

Lafaix earned her second straight All-Big West first team selection this fall and became the first player in program history to be named to the Preseason MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

Brown and Rojas anchored a formidable Cal Poly defense that posted 10 shutouts this fall, the program's most in a season since 2009.

For Brown, this is her second consecutive United Soccer Coaches All-West Region selection after she secured second team honors as a freshman in 2021.

The Clovis, Calif. native started in every match for the Mustangs this season, leading the team in minutes with 1,705 and earning All-Big West first team praise. Brown only stepped off the pitch for five minutes all season and has already started in 36 matches during her Cal Poly career.

Rojas grabbed All-West Region third team praise for the second time in her career. She buried the game winner in a 1-0 victory at Sacramento State and assisted on game-winning goals against CSUN and UC Irvine.

The Hayward, Calif. native played every minute in nine matches this season, and has recorded 53 starts, 52 shots, four goals, three assists and 4,309 minutes across her Cal Poly career.

This fall, Cal Poly secured its first outright conference regular season title since 2013 and the No. 1 seed in The Big West Championships.
