52 days without reliable running water: Did Colorado’s mobile home protections work for Summit County?
Jeff Rank realized something concerning in the early hours of Nov. 27. His toilet would not flush. Frustrated at what he said was the latest in a string of water issues for his Summit County mobile home, Rank filed a complaint the next day with the Colorado Department of Local Affairs’ (DOLA) Mobile Home Park Oversight Program — an agency still in its infancy.

Letter to the Editor: County officials’ regulations will increase costs for everyone
I fully appreciate that you believe you are doing the right thing by increasing regulations on the villain of the moment: short term rental owners. However, I have issue with you creating different classes of citizens based on current and past work histories and age. Too bad for young people with no work history in Summit County — sorry, you don’t make the cut.

Letter to the Editor: County commissioners rules for short-term rentals are flawed
I heard your comment on TV about golfers and wanted to correct you. You said golfers take their gas guzzling Suburbans to the golf course. I’m sorry, I drive a Cadillac, which is made in the good old USA, unlike your electric bicycle, which I am sure is made in China.

Letter to the Editor: Summit County government officials aren’t listening to us
I am a home owner in Summit County’s Peak 7 neighborhood near Breckenridge, to be specific, and the Summit County commissioners are stomping on our property rights and not listening to their constituents who are opposed to their regulations. I attended a meeting a week ago at the courthouse, along with many others, and the room was packed. After sitting patiently, quietly and respectful for 90 minutes, they not only moved the citizen comments to the end of the meeting — when the agenda listed it in the beginning — but they said they would not allow any discussion regarding the short-term rentals and would cut citizens off if mentioned.

Chicken-suited demonstrator in Vail facing charges in two different cases, starts crowdfunding campaign for legal expenses
VAIL — A chicken-suited demonstrator has been frequenting Vail Village this season, holding protest signs aimed at exposing local issues. While the chicken suit was meant to draw attention to the signs more than conceal his identity, Tim McMahon says many people became aware that he was the demonstrator after word got out about the trespassing citation he received from the Vail Police in December. (McMahon set foot on Vail Resorts property after being told not to and was promptly served with a summons).

New Colorado River agreement will have headwaters impacts in Eagle County
EAGLE COUNTY — Eagle County is part of the birthplace of the Colorado River. Any agreement to allocate that river’s water is likely to affect residents. A century-old agreement to divide the Colorado’s water is no longer sufficient to govern the river’s use. After years of work to divide up a diminishing resource, officials Monday announced that six of the seven states governed by the compact had created a model for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to possibly incorporate into its own management plan.

Letter to the Editor: The school board’s policy on inclusion is being misunderstood
I teach my students to seek first to understand and then to be understood. I implore our community to seek the same advice.
