CRASH. WELL, PROSECUTORS SAY THIS TEEN MURDER SUSPECT KILLED A 55 YEAR OLD WOMAN NEAR PLATTSMOUTH IT AND THEN SET HER HOUSE ON FIRE. 18 YEAR OLD JABARI PARSONS WAS IN CASS COUNTY COURT TODAY. KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN. SARAH FILI WAS THERE AS LAWYERS LAID OUT THEIR CASE. SARA JOINS US LIVE WITH THE UPDATE. PROSECUTORS SAY PARSONS METHODIC ONLY PLAN TO KILL MARY BLACKWELL. GETTING A RIDE TO THE AREA NEAR HER HOME, PACKING A BACKPACK WITH SUPPLIES AND STABBING HER MORE THAN A DOZEN TIMES. THEY ALSO ADDED A FELONY ARSON CHARGE AGAINST HIM. SHACKLED AT THE WAIST, 18 YEAR OLD JABARI PARSONS LEAVES THE CASS COUNTY, NEBRASKA, COURTROOM, LEARNING THE CASE AGAINST HIM WILL MOVE FORWARD. MURDER IN THE FIRST DEGREE, USE OF A DEADLY WEAPON TO COMMIT A FELONY AND FIRST DEGREE ARSON. PROSECUTORS SAY PARSONS HAD BEEN STAYING WITH LARRY AND MARY BLACKWELL UNTIL LATE SUMMER. HE’S CHARGED WITH MURDERING 55 YEAR OLD MARY BLACKWELL IN HER LIVING ROOM IN AUGUST. THERE WAS MOTIVE. THERE WAS A PLAN. HE CARRIED OUT THAT PLAN. PROSECUTORS SAY DEPUTIES TRACKED PARSONS PATH THE DAY OF THE MURDER AND HAVE WITNESSED STATEMENTS, VIDEO EVIDENCE FROM INSIDE BLACKWELL’S HOME AND CLOTHING THAT MATCHES BOTH A MASKED PERSON CAPTURED ON CAMERA IN THE HOME AND LATER PARSONS CAPTURED IN THE HOME WITH NO MASK. AN INVESTIGATOR TESTIFIED BLACKWELL IS ON THE PHONE WITH A NEIGHBOR WHICH IS ALSO CAPTURED ON HOME SURVEILLANCE BEFORE SHE BEGINS SCREAMING, CALL 911 AND THAT PHOTOS ON PARSONS PHONE CONFIRM THE KNIFE USED TO STAB BLACKWELL BELONGED TO HIT THE ISSUES WITH REGARD TO THE CLOTHING IDENTIFYING HIM WITHOUT ANY DOUBT THE KNIFE. THE SAME THING. THE MASK. PROSECUTOR SAY THE CAMERAS ALSO CAPTURE CLATTERING IN THE KITCHEN SHORTLY BEFORE A FIRE BEGINS IN THE HOME. DOES THE THE KILLING OF MARY AND THEN TRY TO SET A FIRE PROBABLY TO COVER THINGS UP. BUT THERE’S EVIDENCE THAT HE WOULD HAVE DONE ALL OF THOSE THINGS AND NOBODY ELSE COULD HAVE DONE THOSE THINGS. THE DEFENSE ASKS INVESTIGATORS IF THEY’RE AWARE JABARI PARSONS MADE A REPORT OF ABUSE TO NEBRASKA’S DHHS HOTLINE APPROXIMATELY 20 DAYS PRIOR TO BLACKWELL’S DEATH. THEY CONFIRM AND SAY WHEN THEY QUESTIONED PARSONS, HE ADMITTED GUILT AND SAID, QUOTE, THEY WERE HURTING CHILDREN. SAID HE WAS SORRY AND SAID GOD TOLD HIM HE HAD TO DO SOMETHING. NOW, PARSONS ALLEGATION WAS OF SEXUAL ABUSE. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS IT’S STILL INVESTING, ADDING THAT ALONG WITH OTHER ACCUSATIONS OF ABUSE AGAINST THE FAMILY, THE BLACKWELL FAMILY DECLINED TO SPEAK WITH ME.

On Tuesday, new details were revealed about the August 2022 death of 55-year-old Mary Blackwell. According to prosecutors, Blackwell was found in her burning Plattsmouth home with a knife in her chest. Jabari Parsons, 18, is charged with first-degree murder in Blackwell's death. He's also facing two other felonies, including first-degree arson. Prosecutors in Cass County, Neb. said Parsons methodically planned to kill Blackwell, including getting a ride to an area near her home, and packing a backpack of supplies."There was motive," said Cass County assistant attorney Chris Perrone. "There was a plan. He carried out that plan." An investigator testified that video surveillance linked Parsons' clothing to the clothing of the killer and photos of the knife used to stab Blackwell were found on Parsons' phone. "The issues with regard to the clothing identifying him - without any doubt," Perrone said. "The knife — the same thing. The mask — the same thing."According to investigators, Parsons lived with the Blackwells from March to June of 2022, but at the time of the murder was living in a tent by an orchard near the county line. Investigators testified that Blackwell was on the phone with a neighbor at the time, then the neighbor heard the screams and called 911. "There's evidence he would've done all of these things and nobody else could've done those things."According to the autopsy report, Blackwell was stabbed about 15 times and also had defensive stab wounds. In the courtroom, the defense brought up that Parsons filed an abuse report with Nebraska DHHS approximately 20 days prior to Blackwell's death. The prosecution acknowledged it was aware of the abuse allegations because Parsons admitted to the killing. According to investigators, during the admission of guilt, he told them "God told him he had to do something" and "they were hurting children." Police said Parsons' report included allegations of sexual abuse. Those allegations are under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff's Office. They also confirmed other reports made against the family are also being investigated.Parsons' case now moves to district court. He'll next appear on Dec. 19.
