It certainly sounds like the Green Bay Packers will have Aaron Rodgers to start this weekend against the Chicago Bears. However, if his thumb and rib injuries cause problems, they’ll turn to Jordan Love to lead the way. But in case the team needs to look at their depth chart in case of an emergency, they’ve worked out a quarterback who might be able to help.
According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, the Packers worked out quarterback James Morgan on Tuesday.
Morgan, who grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, played his college ball at Bowling Green before transferring to FIU. He was drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft though they waived him in 2021. He then bounced around the league with the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jets again, and Indianapolis Colts. Morgan signed with the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL earlier this year as well.
While Morgan would be the definition of an emergency quarterback, it would be a pretty cool story if he got the chance to suit up. He grew up a huge Packers fan and has said he idolized both Brett Favre and Rodgers.
“[Favre] was definitely my idol growing up,” Morgan told The Spun in 2020. “My high school is two minutes away from Lambeau Field, so just being able to grow up with him in my backyard and see the throws that he would make in training camp and all that stuff was really what caused me to fall in love with the quarterback position and the game in general when I was a kid. But definitely Favre, and then obviously Rodgers. The stuff that he’s been able to do is just incredible and the physical ability he has is tremendous. Those two guys definitely made a big impact on me growing up.”
