School District 51 Foundation Giving Away More Than 5,000 Chromebooks

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — It’s the news plenty have been watching out for in Mesa County. School District 51 announced it will be giving away more than 5,000 used Chromebooks. “We know that they are at the end of their lifespan in the classroom. We still feel like there’s a little bit of life left in them.” executive director of the School District 51 Foundation, Angela Christensen told us. “We wanted to give these back as a thank you to our community for the passage of the 2017 mill and bond.”

Those funds helped the school district reach its 2018 goal of supplying every D51 student with a Chromebook. Now, a few years later, the district with a new grant in hand- is prepared to give some of its older, web-centric, laptops to county residents. “We want it to be as easy as possible for our community to come and pick up these free Chromebooks.” said Christensen.

To that end, the district is handing out the Chromebooks at a variety of locations thought the county next week. Here’s the schedule of when and where Mesa County residents can pick up two per person:
