South Sioux Falls will be getting a big B&G Milkyway next year.

Aberson Development is franchising the popular ice cream and treat shop and will be developing its location on the northeast corner of 69th Street and Cliff Avenue.

“B&G is an absolute staple of this community, so for my wife and I both being born and raised in Sioux Falls, we have a lifelong relationship with the brand as so many do,” owner Josh Aberson said. “We’ve always felt like this part of the south side of town had a void for a location, so with the adjacent development on the greater site as well as the significant expansion of rooftops in the area, we knew it was a perfect time to franchise the location.”

The new B&G will have “all the things that everyone has come to love about B&G,” Aberson said.

“We are, however, making significant upgrades in other ways, such as a larger building and site footprint for customer convenience and speed of service, an expanded and enhanced outdoor seating area, and most importantly a double drive-thru with a new service experience that will allow for much quicker drive-thru times.”

Initial site work has started, and as long as the weather cooperates, the plan is to open by May 1, 2023.

This will be the ninth B&G in the Sioux Falls metro area and likely not the last for Aberson.

“A continued expansion of the B&G footprint is a perfect addition to our business portfolio, so we’re thrilled to provide this new location and look forward to additional sites in the near future,” he said.

Bruce Bettmeng owns the overall franchise with his wife, Pam. They own the shops on West 12th Street and West 41st Street and sold the first franchise in 2001. Earlier this year, Bettmeng bought land along Louise Avenue at 86th Street for an eventual relocation of the B&G on 69th Street near Louise.

The B&G at 69th and Cliff complements existing development at the corner, which includes a retail center that will have Cookie Co., Starbucks, Year Round Brown and Gloss Nails.

To the east, the new Stadium Crossing apartments plan to open next year. The first 258-unit apartment building will include an attached two-story clubhouse and full slate of amenities, including a swimming pool, extensive indoor-outdoor community space and a fitness center.
