Seaside shooting was a family feud, police say
REPORTER FELIX CORTEZ... LIVE IN SEASIDE.### DAN/ERIN.. INVESTIGATORS SAY THAT SHOOTING STEMMED FROM A FAMILY FEUD BETWEEN TWO BROTHERS.. ONE OF THEM WAS ARRESTED LAST NIGHT.. BUT IN A STRANGE TWIST.. HE WAS RE- ARRESTED JUST A SHORT WHILE AGO.. AFTER SHOWING UP HERE AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT HOPING TO PICK UP SOME BELONGINGS.. < SEASIDE POLICE CONFISCATED THIS HUGE CACHE OF WEAPONS TUESDAY MORNING FOLLOWING MONDAY'S HIGH SPEED CHASE AND SHOOTING THROUGH A SEASIDE NEITGHBORHOOD IN WHICH MORE THAN 40 ROUNDS WERE FIRED.. POLICE SAY IT ALL STEMMED FROM A FAMILY FEUD THE NIGHT BEFORE.. (15:20 SO THERE WERE SOME REPORTS ABOUT THIS BEING GANG RELATED. WE DON'T HAVE ANY INFORMATION THAT THIS IS GANG RELATED. WE HAVE INFORMATION THIS IS LIKELY FAMILY RELATED BETWEEN TWO BROTHERS, WHICH WOULD MAKE THIS AN ISOLATED EVENT, NOT A GANG SHOOTOUT :32) SEASIDE POLICE ACTED QUICKLY.. ARRESTING 51 YEAR OLD ANTHONY JOHNSON LATER THAT EVENING FOR GUN POSSESSION.. ACTING ON THAT POLICE SERVED A SEARCH WARRANT AT HIS HOME ON THE 17-HUNDRED BLOCK OF SAN PABLO AND HAULED AWAY NEARLY A DOZEN GHOST GUNS, THE PARTS TO MAKE MORE AND SEVERAL DOZEN HIGH CAPACITY MAGAZINES.. BAILED OUT TUESDAY AND THEN WENT TO SEASIDE PD TO PICK UP HIS CELL PHONE WHERE HE WAS RE-ARRESTED ON NEW WEAPONS CHARGES.. IT'S UNKNOWN WHAT HE WAS DOING WITH ALL THAT FIRE POWER OR WHY HE ALLEGEDLY TRIED TO KILL HIS BROTHER.. BUT THE CHIEF SAYS THE STREETS ARE SAFER BECAUSE OF GOOD COMMUNITY POLICING (CITY MANAGER 2:22 AND I'M THANKFUL THAT THIS DEPARTMENT IS SET UP IN A WAY THAT ENSURES A QUICK RESPONSE WHEN INCIDENTS OCCUR :30 THAT'S WHAT THE PUBLIC IS LOOKING FOR THAT'S THE KIND OF SAFETY THEY DESERVE AND THAT'S THE KIND OF SAFE RESPONSE THAT THEY GOT :36)> POLICE SAY THIS IS STILL A VERY ACTIVE INVESTIGATION AND NOT RULING OUT THAT ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES MIGHT BE FILED AGAINST ANTHONY JOHNSON.. POLICE WANT TO QUESTION HIS BROTHER.. BUT SO FAR HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND HIM.

Seaside shooting was a family feud, police say
Police say a family feud between two brothers led to a shooting in broad daylight in a Seaside neighborhood and detectives confiscating a cache of firearms the following morning. The shooting happened just before noon at different intersections on San Pablo Avenue, with two cars speeding down the busy street. Late that evening based on a community tip California Highway Patrol officers pulled over Anthony Johnson, 51, on Highway 1 near Aptos and found a gun in his possession. That led to Seaside detectives serving a search warrant on the 1700 block of San Pablo, not far from where shots rang out. What police hauled away shocked the police chief and detectives; nearly a dozen handguns and parts to make more weapons. Also uncovered were several dozen high-capacity magazines. All of the hardware was displayed on a table and chief Nick Borges said it “looks like a gun show.” Johnson was booked into the county jail on gun and ammo charges. Police say he’s a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing any firearms. Police say they are still looking for Johnson’s brother and at this time aren’t releasing his name. Chief Borges says the case is still very active and more serious charges could be filed against Johnson, including attempted murder.
