Seaside shooting was a family feud, police say
Police say a family feud between two brothers led to a shooting in broad daylight in a Seaside neighborhood and detectives confiscating a cache of firearms the following morning.
The shooting happened just before noon at different intersections on San Pablo Avenue, with two cars speeding down the busy street.
Late that evening based on a community tip California Highway Patrol officers pulled over Anthony Johnson, 51, on Highway 1 near Aptos and found a gun in his possession. That led to Seaside detectives serving a search warrant on the 1700 block of San Pablo, not far from where shots rang out.
What police hauled away shocked the police chief and detectives; nearly a dozen handguns and parts to make more weapons. Also uncovered were several dozen high-capacity magazines.
All of the hardware was displayed on a table and chief Nick Borges said it “looks like a gun show.”
Johnson was booked into the county jail on gun and ammo charges. Police say he’s a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing any firearms.
Police say they are still looking for Johnson’s brother and at this time aren’t releasing his name.
Chief Borges says the case is still very active and more serious charges could be filed against Johnson, including attempted murder.
