Cedar Rapids police have confirmed they are investigating what appears to be a vehicle on pedestrian incident near the 8th Ave. bridge early Tuesday morning.
Union officials report a picketer, part of the BCTGM/Ingredion strike, was struck by a car near the 8th Ave. bridge while walking on the public sidewalk on Tuesday.
Cedar Rapids Public Safety Communications Specialist Mike Battien said no injuries were reported, and all other details are currently under investigation.
The president of BCTGM 100G, Mike Moore, claimed the driver was dropping off a replacement worker.
Moore said when the driver turned to leave the scene, picketers confronted them and the driver allegedly showed picketers a gun.
"When the driver returned to leave seconds later, and confronted by picketers, the driver reached into the center console of her vehicle and brandished a gun," Moore said. "As of this email it is our understanding the CRPD is currently looking for this individual for a hit and run charge."
Moore said the picketer seems to be okay and suffered from scrapes and bruises, as far as they know.
Ingredion workers have been on strike for nearly four months.
