SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – It's the season of giving, and if you plan on making a charitable contribution, this is the day to do so.

It's Giving Tuesday — a holiday that encourages people to support nonprofit organizations, such as San Francisco's GLIDE Foundation.

"We have a goal of raising $45,000 this year, which is a really big lift for us and will help us continue to serve our clients through the holiday season," Lauren Bernstein with GLIDE told KCBS Radio.

GLIDE feeds people in San Francisco year-round while running a violence prevention program and a childcare and family resource center.

Meanwhile, just over a dozen arts organizations in the Bay Area have teamed up to share any donations they get this year. Lisa Mallette, with the City Lights Theater Company in San Jose, reminded people that the arts community is still feeling the effects of COVID-19. "We need the art, we need artists in our lives, in our community and we're the ones that are here to tell our stories and it's a hard time right now, it really is," she told KCBS Radio.

The overall goal of Giving Tuesday is to change the world through generosity.
