LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A simple game of bowling brought together dozens in the Lexington community Monday night, all to support a cause close to the heart of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.
“I stutter, and at first I thought that it was only me who stuttered, but I think over the years I’ve noticed how much I can help people,” said Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Change and Impact Inc. Founder.
Help he has. The former Kentucky Wildcat basketball player turned founder of Change and Impact held a bowling fundraiser at LexLive Monday, to raise money for speech therapy services while also raising awareness about the barriers the stuttering community faces.

“It takes time and dedication and so that’s exactly what I’m doing,” said Kidd-Gilchrist.
Speech pathologist Meg Shake said the need for more resources for those who stutter is critical.
“This organization really wants to educate more speech therapists like me to do a better job with therapy, they want to expand health care coverage for individuals who stutter so we don’t have to work so hard to get therapy visits approved so it’s extremely meaningful,” said Shake.
Shake said the fundraising event will go a long way toward helping reach some of those goals, showing that a simple game of bowling, is really so much more.
“Everybody needs a person that stutters in their lives,” said Shake.
