Mustangs visit Dallas Baptist to open LSC campaign

DALLAS -- Midwestern State launches its Lone Star Conference campaign on the road Wednesday night at Dallas Baptist. Tip-off at the Burg Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.

LAST MEETING | Midwestern State's Jermane Carter poured in poured in 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead MSU to an 82-66 win over Dallas Baptist in the quarterfinal round of the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The streaking Mustangs rolled to their fifth straight win and eight of the last nine to clinch a second straight winning season at 16-14. Jermane Carter scored an efficient 1.85 points per shot on 10-of-13 shooting with a 3-pointer. It was his seventh 20-point performance of the season. Pierre Sanders produced MSU's top +/- as the Mustangs outscored DBU by 19 points in his 32 minutes on the floor. Sanders was 4 of 7 from the floor with two 3-pointers to finish with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

LAST TIME OUT | Midwestern State landed an early knockout punch Saturday night at the NNU Thanksgiving Classic, then cruised to a 78-57 win over host Northwest Nazarene at the Johnson Sports Center. Midwestern State bolted out to a 22-2 lead and built a 27-point halftime advantage. Northwest Nazarene struggled to 21.4-percent shooting in the first half against MSU's zone defensive schemes and managed to hit just one of its nine 3-point attempts. The Mustangs dominated the battle on the glass controlled on a 49-39 rebounding edge led by Jermane Carter and Marquis Davison, who grabbed a team-high nine boards each. Midwestern State built on an improved team shooting touch by shooting 45 percent or better for the second straight night. Junior guard Pierre Sanders led a group of four Mustangs in double figures finishing with 14 points, six rebounds, and three steals.
