EVENING. BACK TO YOU. ALL RIGHT. THANKS, BILL. WELL, RETAILERS ARE HOPING TO CASH IN EVEN MORE THIS MONDAY. SOME ANALYSTS PREDICT ANOTHER $11 BILLION TODAY ALONE. AND IT’S NOT JUST BIG BOX STORES, IT’S KETV NEWSWATCH 7 IN SHOT. MACKINNON SHOWS US SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY REALLY PAID OFF A STEADY STREAM OF SHOPPERS ON ONE OF THE BIGGEST SATURDAYS OF THE YEAR. THAT’S WHAT MEN’S AND ACCESSORIES SHOPKEEPER BOYD RED AND BOSS SAID ABOUT THE BIG DAY. IT WAS A GOOD WEEKEND. WE HAD A LOT OF OUR REGULAR CUSTOMERS COME OUT IN SUPPORT. THE SUN SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY, OF COURSE, AND THEN BLACK FRIDAY. BEFORE THAT WAS A LITTLE IT SEEMED A LITTLE BIT BETTER THAN LAST YEAR. WE HAD WE HAD QUITE A FEW MORE PEOPLE THROUGH AND RIGHT BEHIND HIS SHOP, ANOTHER CLOTHING STORE, GRAHAM RACES OWNER STACEY MARS. BOCK SAYS PEOPLE TOLD HER THEY SHOPPED SPECIFICALLY FOR BUSINESS SATURDAY. AND THEN THE ENTIRE PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY FOR SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY, COME OUT JUST TO SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES LIKE TO SHOP AT DIFFERENT PLACES. THEY’VE NEVER BEEN. SO NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE OUR REGULARS, WE ALSO HAVE MANY, MANY NEW CUSTOMERS AND FAMILIES THAT ARE IN TOWN. THEY’RE ALSO SPENDING IN PARTS OF WHERE THERE ARE A LOT OF PLACES TO SHOP. SMALL WE’RE LOCATED IN COUNTRYSIDE VILLAGE HERE THAT IS BEEN A HOME TO LOCAL BUSINESSES SINCE THE BEGINNING. YOU’RE NOT GOING TO FIND ANYBODY IN HERE. THAT’S A CHAIN ANYMORE. AND I THINK PEOPLE UNDERSTAND. AND SO THERE’S A DRAW THAT CAN COME HERE AND FIND LOTS OF PLACES THAT ARE JUST LIKE US LOCALLY OWNED, SMALL SHOPS. AND PEOPLE REALLY ENJOY THAT. AND IT JUST BRINGS THEM BACK A LOT OF GREAT MEMORIES. SO THEY’RE ALWAYS, YOU KNOW, EXCITED TO TELL US ABOUT THE SHOPS THEY USED TO SHOP AND SEE ALL OF THE NEW SHOPS HERE, WHICH IS IT’S JUST A FANTASTIC OUT HERE ABOUT THE OLD PLUS THE NEW AND BE PART OF A DEVELOPMENT LIKE THIS. As the holiday season kicks off and gift shopping commences, it's the make-or-break time of year for many.Some owners of retail stores say they saw steady business on Small Business Saturday. The national campaign encourages consumer spending at locally-owned businesses.The shopkeeper of Simple Man, a men's clothing and accessory store, says people came out for the day. "It was a good weekend. We had a lot of our regular customers come out and support us on Small Business Saturday of course and then Black Friday before that was a little, it seemed a little bit better than last year. We had quite a few people come through," said Boyd Redinbaugh.And right behind his shop, another clothing store.Gramercy's owner, Stacie Mausbach, says people told her they shopped specifically for Small Business Saturday."The entire community. People especially for Small Business Saturday come out just to support small businesses. They like to support places they've never been to so not only do we have our regulars. we have many, many new customers and families that are in town," Mausbach said.The owners say consumers are also spending in parts of town where there are a lot of places to shop small."We're located in Countryside Village here that's been a home to local businesses since the beginning. You're not going to find anyone here that's a chain anymore, people understand that. So there's a draw that you can come here, and find lots of places that are just like us: locally owned, small shops and people really enjoy that," Redinbaugh said."And it always brings back just a lot of great memories. So they're always excited to tell us about the shops they used to shop at and see all of the new shops here," Mausbach said. "Which is, it's just really fun to hear about the old plus the new and be part of a development like this."
