A California drug trafficker was sentenced to federal prison today after being arrested for transporting almost two kilograms of methamphetamine to Oregon.
According to the District Attorney's Office, 42-year-old Jose Baldemar Izar of Lancaster was sentenced to seven years in federal prison. Izar has prior felony convictions for drug trafficking spanning over two decades.
Court documents say investigators were tipped off to Izar's drug trafficking in October 2020.
The Douglas Area Interagency Narcotics Team believed Izar was transporting drugs from California to the Roseburg area.
On March 17, 2021, officers learned Izar was traveling to Douglas County. They stopped a rented vehicle with Izar inside.
When investigators searched the vehicle, they found more than 1,700 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of heroin, and drug packaging materials.
Izar and another suspect were charged with possession with intent to distribute. They were also charged with conspiring with one another.
On November 3, 2022, Izar pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge.
